Most of my readers here know that I am all about empowering teen girls.
I have lived with dozens and dozens of them over the past 20 years as a dorm parent at a private boarding high school. I have coached them and taught them during my teaching and coaching career. And I am now in the trenches with one myself, as somehow our baby girl has become a teen right before my eyes!
Most of you also know though, that my great passion is in photographing these amazing young ladies. Being a portrait photographer to teen girls gives me a small window of time to give girls the unforgettable experience that they are amazing, that they are beautiful, and that they can stand in that truth. To me, there is nothing quite like taking a girl through the weeks of her portrait experience, showing her what an awesome girl she is.
So that is why summer and autumn are just the absolute best for me! Summer is the start of portrait season, and things really come to a beautiful finale when autumn comes to a close.
I thought it would be fun then, to share with you some of the lovely young ladies that I have had the joy of photographing this past summer. Here are some of my favorite portrait moments from this past summer.
I loved starting my senior portrait season off with this girl. Although a bit quiet and reserved, her smile was fantastic as were her volleyball skills, which I got to see a little bit of during our shoot. She even brought her fur babies along for the session, too! Her parents joined us, and made her laugh, and it was a great time.
What an awesome experience it was to photograph the stellar athlete that is Kate G. Not only is she a talented runner, but she also crushes on the tennis court, and dominates on the golf course, where she really shines.
What I especially loved though, was just chatting this girl up. What an awesome person to talk to. Our session was during the heat of a July evening, and the bugs were eating her alive, but she smiled and laughed through it all. What a sport! (no pun intended!)
Not long after Kate's portrait session, her twin sister Anna and I had our date. Another stellar athlete, Anna is a volleyball player at one of our local high schools, and actually attends a different school than her sister.
Anna and I actually ended up splitting her session into two separate evenings because a lightning show came out in full force during our first evening. Wow! She was a great sport, and we finished up the very next night, which was actually a first for me. I had a blast photographing this gorgeous young lady, and loved getting to know her, too.
This was a very special portrait session for me, because I've known Katie since she was about 3 months old. It has been pretty awesome to watch her grow up into this exceptional young lady, and it was extra special to have her mom and younger sister join us for the shoot.
I felt so honored that Katie asked me to take her senior portraits, and we both had the best time capturing this amazing moment for her.
I suppose I should back up and correct myself. The first session of the season actually happened in June, when my bestest best friend came to visit and brought her daughter along, so that we could take her senior portraits here in Colorado.
Perhaps I forgot to mention Bridget earlier, because I simply cannot believe that she's about to graduate from high school. I remember seeing this sweet baby's face for the first time and thinking she was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen.
Spending the day with Bridget (and her mom) was absolutely amazing, especially watching the lovely young lady that Bridget had become. Talking with her was so fun, so easy, so natural. What a mature and wonderful girl.
Bonus- she and Katie were besty best best friends growing up, so photographing them both was just the best!
OK, back to August, when I got to photograph the lovely Kayla at one of my favorite locations, in downtown Colorado Springs. We don't live in a big city, but our city is so beautiful and so fun, and I love the photo sessions I shoot there.
Kayla was fantastic! She had the best outfit changes, was the greatest sport about dipping into random places like the local Chipotle to do a quick outfit change in the restroom, and just laughed and joked through the entire session. She was totally at ease. The most fun session!
Post editing was not as fun, simply because I could not narrow down the photos for her! Kayla simply could not take a bad photo! I did manage to narrow it down, and here are a few of my favorites!
A good friend of mine connected me with Emily, and I could not be more grateful. This girl was the best! She brought along her younger sister and her mom, and they were the icing on this portrait session cake. They brought out the laughter, they made Emily giggle and smirk and make the most fun expressions. It was just awesome.
I'm not sure I've ever had a session go so quickly, and by the end, I had almost double the images that I usually take. We were just having so much fun. I could have photographed this girl for hours, and the sun just set too quickly that evening.
Here are some of my favorites:
September has already had its fill of great portrait sessions, but I'll save those for another day.
Oh, and if you've got a special senior in your life and you haven't booked her senior portraits yet, what are you waiting for? There is so much fun to be had, so call me!
