Let’s be honest. January can really suck, am I right?
The holidays are over, chances are good that our pants a little tighter, and there’s either a sad empty space where the Christmas tree once stood, or worse, the stinking thing is still up, and won’t take itself down!
Ugh, January can be so depressing!
But wait! Let me tell you why I LOVE LOVE LOVE January!
January is the month of new beginnings! We get to put up a new calendar. We get to start fresh with a new planner, or open up the first page of the blank bullet journal. (any other bujo nuts out there?)
Every year when I get to January, I look at my kids, my marriage, my health, and my business, and I am filled with hopes, plans, and goals.
January has become my GAME CHANGER.
January is when I choose ONE WORD.
I know I’m not the only one who does this. It’s a popular concept to choose a WORD for the year, one that serves as a foundation for powerful goals and a great future.
This year, my word is BUILD, and I am crazy about it.
Let me tell you why:
1. MY WORD IS A VERB
I may be a grammar dork, but hear me out. I LOVE that my word is a verb because it inspires me to ACTION. When it comes to 2019, I don’t want to watch it from the sidelines, I want to experience it. So I needed a VERB.
2. MY WORD COVERS IT ALL.
When I think about all of my life’s priorities, the word BUILD ties in perfectly. Build a strong marriage. Build up confident and kind children. Build a purposeful business. Build a healthy body. Build confidence and self esteem in every teen girl I meet. Build courses that teach moms. Build communities, both locally and online, that encourage (and build up!) each other. BUILD, BUILD, BUILD!
3. MY WORD IS BOTH BIG AND SMALL.
I’m inspired by the idea of BUILDING something monumental, a long term legacy. But the idea of BUILDING is also quite small. I can do this every day. I can build up my kids with hugs and kind words every morning. I can build a stronger marriage every minute of the day, whether I’m with my husband or not. I can build a purposeful and successful business with every word I write, every image I edit, every teen I photograph, every mom I teach. Baby building steps, which lead to skyscrapers of purpose. Small, but also monumental.
