Hi! I'm Jen Lebo. I'm here to help you with all things
photography! Life is more beautiful when you share it, so let's
connect and grow together!
Today's post might seem to stray a bit from the usual JLP topics- photography, mommying, beauty, faith, you know the topics. But I have found a tool so wonderful and so fun that I just have to share it with you. And what I've found over the past month is that this tool helps me in all the areas I just mentioned! So actually, today's topic is for everyone. Today's tool is one that I think every mom would love.
Today I'm going to share with you my Bullet Journal!
Wait... what? What the heck is a Bullet Journal (or BuJo as it's lovingly referred to)? Think of it as a planner, mixed with a journal, with a little bit of crafty fun mixed in for good measure. I discovered this little goody when I was researching the perfect planner. I know that every mom out there can relate to the struggle that I have always had with planners. Because we are not just moms. Some of us work outside the home. Some of us run small businesses. Some of us run all over town from soccer game to PTA meeting to dentist appointment. Some do all of the above. But all of us juggle more than one ball at a time. And we need something that we can customize to our own uniquely insane lives. Enter The Bullet Journal.
I can try to explain it in its simplest form, but I'll let the founder of this little gem do that for you.

All you need is a pen and a notebook to get started. And with a little creativity, you can create your own planner to work with whatever priorities you've got in your life.
I thought I'd share a few photos of my own new Bullet Journal with you today to give you an example of how you can organize your days, your weeks, your year, how you can find inspiration, track habits, and get more done. Just remember a few things. First, this whole BuJo tool is still new to me. Second, I'm not a "swirly" kind of gal, but prefer clean straight lines, so that's what you'll see in my BuJo. And following that, your BuJo is for you. So keep it one color and simple lists. Or go to town with colors and doodles. The fun is finding ways to make it work for you. I'll show you how I've made mine work for me.
1. I CAN KEEP TRACK OF MY YEAR, MY MONTH, AND EACH DAY HOWEVER I LIKE
I am a list maker. And I've usually got 3 different lists going each day: family, business, and teaching. I used to have piles of post its, or a memo pad with chicken scratch, but now I dedicate half a page to each day, mark out a week in advance and color code my lists. Orange is family, blue is business, green is teaching. Everything feels more organized and I love love love checking off things I've done (I know you understand that!) so I tend to keep working to get more done. My day to day pages work great for me.
But I'm also a girl who needs her whole month laid out. Nothing huge, but just so I can see what day is where. I've learned to create my own monthly layout in a way that let's me write out a few goals for that month, a day to day tracker of habits I want to work on, and an inspiring quote for that month. Simple and clean.
2. I CAN BRAIN DUMP AND PLAN MY BUSINESS
I love that my "to do lists" and my calendar are in the same book as where I brainstorm and this is the beauty of my BuJo. It's all in one place. I plan out blog posts and keep a tracker on getting them done. I can brainstorm all kinds of ideas and organize them into timelines or topics. I can plan marketing, projects, product pricing, you name it. And then I can apply it to my monthly and daily lists. Perfect!
3. I CAN JOURNAL ON THE PROMISES OF GOD
Whether it's being comforted by Scriptures, or writing down those favorite lyrics that remind me of His love, my BuJo has become my favorite place to journal on God's love. Sometimes I write out entire Psalms just to savor the beauty of His word. It's a treat then to be flipping through monthly and daily lists and come across a quote that comforts me, or a Bible verse that lifts me up. And since I have my BuJo almost all the time, I can write down anything that comes to mind- a prayer, or a Bible verse. I find myself writing down more Scripture than before, which has me rereading and meditating more on God's word. Definitely a positive of this book.
4. I CAN KEEP ANYTHING ELSE ON HAND
Perhaps I'll be inspired to run another half marathon. I can write out and plan a training schedule and then have easy access to apply it to my daily pages. Or maybe our family wants to plan a trip. We can plan out the route, keep track of packing, even journal about the trip itself all in one place. I've seen people keep "gratitude" lists in their BuJos, or track sleep habits (of baby or mom!). I've seen people track weight loss, debt management, even dissertation planning! If it's in your life, and it's important to you, you can track it. And you can track it all in one place.
I would encourage you all to try this method of planning and journaling. It has made me more productive, it has inspired me in every area of my life from faith to family to photography. Go grab yourself a pen and a notebook and try it out. Let me know what you think! In the day of digital EVERYTHING, it's super fun to have a tangible tool to enjoy. So go enjoy!
